Stop adobe from updating

Many system administrators have encountered this at least once in our lifetime, or should I say at least once a week: We constantly find ourselves trying to control our network and environment, protecting it from malware, constantly keeping it up to date, and in many cases also protecting it from users that can be blamed for our hair loss among many other things. One of these struggles is to keep our software, operating systems, and hardware up to date with the latest patches, fixes, or service packs. There is normally a Customisation Wizard that Adobe produce for acrobat not sure if they have released version 10 yet but that will have options in to change these options it also creates an MST where you can add extra Registry settings hope this helps See my entry in this post.. Until Adobe Releases the "Adobe Customization Tool" for version 10 of their Reader application. While installing the main exe I could find the msi, cab file and other components available in the %allusersprofile%. If any one help in getting the registry entries so that I can add in the MST and deploy it.Please see sample registries hope this help; Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader.0\Feature Lockdown] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat.0\Feature Lockdown] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader.0\Feature Lockdown] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat.0\Feature Lockdown] "b Updater"=dword:00000000This script I modified a little, but it works well in our global environment: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run] "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run] "Adobe ARM"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run] "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run] "Adobe ARM"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader.0\Feature Lock Down] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader.0\Feature Lock Down] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader.0\Feature Lock Down] "b Updater"=dword:00000000 Thank you - dgarden for the reg entries!

What makes out life more complex is the fact that for some software, such as the ones from Adobe, updates can be done by our end users. We need to control these updates and prevent regular users from updating their workstations.

To disable update notifications, run the Adobe Application Manager and change the notification option. If you're running Windows 8 or a 64-bit version of Windows 7, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core.

If you're running a 32-bit version of Windows 7, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core.

When you install applications in the Adobe Creative Suite CS5 or CS6, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, the installation program also installs the Adobe Application Manager (formerly called Adobe Updater).

Adobe Application Manager automatically checks for new updates to Adobe software and notifies you if it finds them.
