On May 29, 2013 I embarked on a journey that would change my life. Fortunately, I found love before I had surgery, but many people have not. There are three major weight loss surgeries: the gastric bypass, the lap band and the sleeve.
Most of the people you will find here have either already gone through one of these procedures, are pre-op or are exploring their options.
For starters, they are a cheap date because they don't eat much!
Many prefer a protein shake over any other drink and many prefer going on a run or working out at the gym over a movie.
Deep down inside I wondered if those men were the same men who had passed me on the street or sat next me to in an airplane who overlooked me because I was obese. I quickly discovered that was not productive behavior and I had to stop doing it. I remember thinking, “Well, I guess if I don’t receive any emails then I’m too overweight for anyone to be interested.” At the time I was only 65 lbs.
I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to take compliments or believe what they said. I found myself looking for the hidden meaning behind words or questioning a man’s motives. Jen: Honestly, I signed up for an online dating profile even when I wasn’t sure I was ready to date.
Overweight children who become overweight adults almost universally say they did not date during their teenage years. Studies confirm that our evolved species is jaundiced against the overweight. Did she make herself unreachable by hiding in her obesity and self-loathing?
Nowhere is this more evident than in the dating and mating of young people. Or did a prejudice society cause her to retreat within herself? Girls Gone Wild When the same people who suffered this rejection and self loathing through adolescence lose weight they often report a euphoria as they enter the world of "the normal." Connie told me, "When I realized I had a thin body to match my "pretty face" I moved in on that feeling and went wild making up for lost time. Suddenly I was one of the girls I used to hate, the kind who never buys her own drink or dinner, the girl who is the social hub of the office.
Most of the information I found about weight loss surgery was either a pamphlet at a doctor’s office or a website not detailed to give the whole story about bariatric surgery.
I think there’s a real need in the marketplace for candid books about details about life before, during, and after weight loss surgery, and this book fits the bill nicely.
